Purdue Basketball Set for Hall of Fame Series Game in Toronto

This Saturday, Purdue basketball will face off against Alabama in the Hall of Fame Series game at the Coca-Cola Coliseum in Toronto. The game was scheduled to feature a player from Toronto on both teams, but unfortunately, Alabama’s Charles Bediako left for professional basketball last season, leaving Purdue’s Zach Edey, at 7-4 and 300 pounds, as the only Toronto native on the court.

Despite Bediako’s absence, Alabama will have all available hands on deck for the game. Nick Pringle, a 6-10 forward who had been suspended for a previous game, has been reinstated, and Grant Nelson, who suffered a leg injury, is expected to play.

Both teams come into the game with impressive records, with Purdue at 8-1 and Alabama at 6-2. Purdue has already secured wins over notable teams such as Xavier, Gonzaga, Tennessee, and Marquette. Alabama has had success as well, with a notable 92-81 loss to Ohio State in the Emerald Coast Classic.

Alabama coach Mark Painter and Purdue coach Mark Painter both boast impressive resumes, with both teams receiving No.1 seeds in the NCAA Tournament at the end of last season.

Statistically, the game matches two of the best offensive teams in the nation, with Alabama ranked second in the nation in offensive efficiency and Purdue ranked fourth. Alabama is led by guard Mark Sears, who averages 19.8 points per game, while Purdue’s top scorer is Zach Edey, who averages 23.7 points and 11.2 rebounds per game.

Purdue has the upper hand historically, leading the series against Alabama 5-3, with their last meeting in 2011 resulting in a 65-56 win for the Boilermakers.
