Understanding Tennessee and Alabama

[ad_1]

The first ACC/SEC Challenge posed a challenge for the top teams in the SEC, with Tennessee, Texas A&M and Alabama all taking losses. Meanwhile, Ole Miss, Missouri and Arkansas all picked up significant victories during the challenge. This led to questions about the gap between the conference’s upper and middle tiers, as well as how the results would impact the power rankings.

The top three teams in the power rankings have all played at least three Quadrant 1 games, and Texas A&M, with a 2-2 record, is the only one of the trio without a losing record. Tennessee suffered a defensive setback in a loss to North Carolina and is looking to prove themselves against elite teams. Alabama, meanwhile, is yet to defeat a top-40 KenPom opponent, with a tough schedule ahead. Kentucky saw a loss against UNC Wilmington, while Florida missed chances for quality nonconference wins without Micah Handlogten.

Auburn and Arkansas also experienced losses, but Arkansas picked up a crucial win against Duke. Ole Miss, on the other hand, doubled their home top-100 wins compared to last season. Mississippi State suffered a bad loss against Southern, and South Carolina’s Meechie Johnson is an unexpected top scorer.

Missouri, Georgia, LSU, and Vanderbilt also had mixed results, with wins and losses. The power rankings were impacted by these results, and the landscape of the SEC conference appears to be shifting as teams prove themselves against tough competition.
